CONTRACT FOR GLASGOW. Glasgow manufacturers have secured an order for 13 locomotives for the African railways, at a cost of £•7,61:2 each. A German firm secured the contract for 13 similar engines, costing £6,700, and the American firm or Baldwins six at £6.696 and four at L 7,272.—A. and N.Z.-P.A. ARMY ESTIMATES.—The British Army Estimates will be presented to > G , House of Commons next week and H is understood that they will show a further reduction of £500,000 on the preceding year.—British Official Wireless. US. BANK MERGER.—The formation of the largest bank in the United states. with resources of about *400,000,000, through the merger of th© Guaranty Trust Company and the National Bank of Commerce, was virtually completed yesterday. The consolidated institution will exceed the National City Bank in resources by *32,000,000.—A. and N.Z.-P.A. BLASTING FATALITY. —A fall of sandstone occurred after a blasting explosion in a tunnel of the Sydney underground railway yesterday and overwhelmed the workmen in an excavation gang. Two men were killed, falter Eldridge, aged 23, and Lawrence Turner, aged 44. and another man was seriously injured. MISSING BOAT SAFE.—The motorlaunch with four men which was reported to be missing on Thursday after leaving the Macleay River on Monday lor Port Macquarie, was discovered yesterday. She was sheltering well inside Nelson’s Bay, Port Stephens. The crew are all well.
