FIRE AT PONSONBY

Shortly before 10 o’clock last evenlnS the living quarters of a grocery shop at 294 Ponsonby Road, occupied by Mr. A. E. Stuart, 'were badly dama S e d by fire. The City and Ponsonby fire brigades soon had the fire under control. It was stated that the fire originated in a front bedroom. A large crowd of people, attracted by the smoke, gathered at the scene of the fire. Chinese fruiterers, occupying premises four doors away, fearing that the outbreak might spread, moved part °f their belongings to the other side •C the road.
