“THE VAGABOND KING”
TO END THIS EVENING “The Vagabond King” finishes this evening. Crowded houses have greeted the nightly appearance of Miss Strella Wilson and Mr. James Liddy in this picturesque musical romance of France at His Majesty’s Theatre, and the season has been an outstanding success for these two stars. “The Vagabond King” is gorgeously staged and the music and singing comprise one of its happiest features. The male chorus takes part in a realistic drinking song, and also gives a rousing rendering of the “Song of the Vagabonds,” which recurs throughout, as the enemy army approaches the gates of Paris. Miss Wilson pleased a big audience last evening with her fine voice and capable acting in the role of the gentle lady of the King’s Court. In her duets with James Liddy, “Only a Rose” and “Love Me To-night,” she was particularly enjoyed. Mr. Liddy filled with credit the part of the vagabond-lover and his vocal efforts were intensely pleasing. The costumes and the lighting are effectively toned to the play.
