WORSE THAN UNLUCKY

(Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 7.50 p.m. LONDON, Thursday. Apropos of the Prince of Wales’s criticism about the marketing of goods. Sir Edward Crowe, Comptrol-ler-General of the Department of Overseas Trade, at an Industries Pair luncheon, related that when 250 c.c. motor-cycles were being exported to China the department was informed that this was an unlucky number in China.

Sir Edward telephoned the Chinese Legation to find if this were true. The reply was: “It is not exactly unlucky; but 250 in Chinese sounds like ‘You're a damned fool.’”
