LATE RUNNING OF TRAINS

COMPLAINTS INVESTIGATED AUCKLAND CHAMBER’S ACTION From time to time there have been complaints in connection with the late running of the 5.24 a.m. train from Otahuhu, which is due in Auckland at 8.55. The late running of this train was found to be due to various delays affecting the 6.37 a.m. Mercer to Auckland train, which is due to leave o tali uhu at 8.21 a.m., three minutes before the other train. Various complaints in connection with such late running were recently investigated by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce and taken up with the Railway Department. As a result of representations made instructions have been issued by the Railway Department that whenever the train from Mercer is more than a certain number of minutes late in leaving Papatoetoe the 8.24 a.m. train from Otahuhu will be dispatched to Auckland ahead of the train from Mercer and will thus run on schedule.
