BIG LOAN CARRIED FOUR TO ONE MAJORITY Auckland and suburban ratepayers yesterday sanctioned the Auckland Power Board’s loan of £675,000 by a majority of 3,944 votes to 894. Of the 30,000 or so ratepayers entitled to vote, the total poll was only 4,877. Details were;

"Naturally we are very gratified with the result, for it will enable us to continue our progressive policy, and make full provision for receiving and utilising the power that will come to us from Arapuni,” said the chairman, Mr. W. J. Holdsworth. "We can expect a large increase in our load when this power is available. We will be able to reticulate practically the whole of the remaining area of our district, and give almost every farmer the privilege of a supply of electricity.” The board will immediately consider how and in what sums the money would be raised, for it would be borrowed only as it was required. No difficulty was expected in finding the money on favourable terms, for the board had already been approached by Auckland financial institutions and by representatives of overseas concerns with offers of funds.
