HOOD AND MONCRIEFF
DISCOVERY OF MESSAGE REPORTED THOUGHT TO BE HOAX Press Association WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Half buried in silt on the bank of the Pelorous River. Alessrs. J. SS. and O. S. Bayne, of Wellington, while on a tramping holiday found a bottle containing the message: “Can’t land. Help. Scotty,” evidently coming, or purporting to come from Hood and Moncrieff, who were lost in an attempt to fly the Tasman Sea. On their return to Wellington they communicated with Alessrs. McLeod and Liesher, two personal friends of Moncrieff. and Mr. McNicol, promoter of the flight. Asked if he thought the message was genuine, Air. McLeod said the signature was very similar to that contained in a letter he had received from Scotty, but personally he did not think it was genuine.
