TROTTING
OTAHUHU CARNIVAL PRELIMINARY REVIEW WINNERS WELL CONCEALED With the exception of two events on Saturday’s Otahuhu card, the fields will be large and backers w il| have a solid task in solving the problems set by handicapper ’ Gooseman. Even in the events with few runners the task of spotting the right one is by no means easy. As usual the quality of the contestants in the chief events is of a high order and will ensure good racing throughout the two days. The officials okf the club are leaving no stone unturned to make the function a success 4,nd such attractive light-harness items «mnot fail to draw large crowds to Epsom each day. Trial Handicap A fine field of improving trotters will measure strides in this heat and some of the front lot in Great Way, Tamahine, Ben Bingen, and Akenehi promising. Don Zolock and Diproi are ai useful pair, while Billy Carbine, Direct Action, Koro Peter and Bingen Starr are all possibilities. Billy Carbine, Koro Peter, Great Way and Direct Action will be looked for on the day. Tamaki Handicap • A large number of improving pacers are on the end of this handicap and good beginners will be at a premium, while the inevitable barrier draw will have a lot of iniluence with backers. \ella Dillon, Lord Lu, Rose Marie, Red ajtar. Rolf© Audubon and Halgana should hop out quickly, while Horizon and Admiral Lock are a handy pair. Nelson McCormack can get out smartly and Curfew Boy is a likely sort. JEiolfe Audubon. Halgana, Nelle Dillon and Curfew Boy will be in demand. Papakura Handicap A nice pair, Wrackla and Torpedo Ruon, are on the end of the small contingent, while Tiger Salve has gone hack 12yds. Had he been left on the *»nd. the trotter may have made it interesting for a good portion of the
journey. Gold Dial only wants to hop off the right leg to give the rest some hurry up, and Goldman and Laplander are always likely to bob up. Wrackler will have first call, with Gold Dial and Torpedo Huon also in favour. Otahuhu Cup Two brackets in the chief event will give the public something solid to support, and it is quite on the cards that Tomkinson’s pair, Glideaway and I.ogan Park, and Berry’s trio, Jean McElwyn, Dundus Boy and Machine Gun, will be most sought for. The Abbey and The* Shrew are a solid pair and will make things interesting, while Nelson Tasker threatens to upset calculations if he can drag out the last little bit all right. Harvest Child is another possibility and Loch Moigh, if right, would be troublesome.. The public will decide between Tomkinson. Berry, The Shrew, The Abbey and Nelson Tasker. President’s Handicap
.. A nice lot of square-gaiters appear here and in Bonnie Belmont and Tonic, Canterbury has strong representation, and the local contingent will require to be on Its best behaviour. The Tartar could, if he went right, cause the visitors trouble, and Raima will prove a thorn in their side. Great Change can go fast, and Tradesman, if trotting at his best, will be a nuisance. Napland, Tiger Salve and Ngatira are a solid lot, but those further out in Bonny Belmont, Tonic, Raima and perhaps The Tartar will receive attention. Mount Albert Handicap
This presents a very difficult problem as there are several improvers, with prospects of getting higher on the trotting scale, engaged. Reremai and Curfew off the end will keep all the others busy. Ribbonwood’s Last may run a good race, and Van Rich is consistent. Happy Rosa is an improved trotter, but Hal Chimes and Medusa are a speedy pair. Then Warplane and Uncle Bert are not to be overlooked, but a good pool should see Hal Chimes, Reremai, Medusa and Curfew Boy in the picture. Myers Handicap
The speed kings will be out in this |»o» but a number of them have an earlier engagement. These include
Harvest Child, Lady Dunmore, Dundas Boy, Dillon Huon, Loch Moigh and Perhaps Logan Park. Fresh ones in yaytlme, All Bell and Koliara will add interest to the event, and if the former » dressed in his best, he will keep the rest busy. Logan Park, Koliara, Loch Hoigh and All Bell are four that may Siv© backers something to think about. Railway Handicap It is surprising to find such a small neld In the saddle race, but the seven starters are capable of staging a really speedy contest. Three good begin - ners, Kelson McCormack, Rockaway and Tony Victor, go off the deep end, and Glandore is on a handy mark, and °nly wants to leave to make it awkward. Dick Dillon may go better in saddle, and Joy Bird is a real one at the distance and style. Old Goldman not let them loaf on the road, but l ne selection m iv be Nelson McCormack, Glandore and Jby Bird.
