“STREET OF SIN” AT BRITANNIA
The latest Emil Jaimin&s picture, “The Street of Sin,” is now being shown at the Britannia Theatre. The disgraced general of “The Last Command” and the weak-willed father of “The Way of All Flesh” are eclipsed by the sinister figure of Sledgehammer Bill, the terror of Harmony Row, a squalid alley in London’s notorious Limehouse. The reformed rogue and bully, jeered at by his former associates and hopelessly in love with a Salvation Army lassie, whom he realises is far beyond his station, consoles himself with hard work in the cause of humanity. In spite of the drama, pathos and tragedy surrounding the picture there is also an element of humour, making the film a faithful portrayal of life and giving it an undoubted appeal. The supporting cast includes Fay Wray as the Salvation Army lassie, and Olga Baklanova as Annie, an associate of the notorious Bill. “Win That Girl,” the second feature, is a breezy tale of football and romance at an American college.
