EVEN FIELDS

Quantity But Not Quality at Woodville TO-MORROWS PROSPECTS DISCUSSED Although fields have fined down considerably since the handicaps were declared, there is still plenty of material for the public to pin their faith to at the opening of the 'Woodville ; meeting, which takes place to-morrow and concludes on Thuresday. This fine course, with its grand stretch of turf and good straight, is a popular one, and the possession of such a convincing ground generally ensures a good fixture and excellent racing, too. It would appear as if handicapper Mr. J. E. Henrys has done his work : exceedingly well, for the winners are well concealed. However, recent form has disclosed pretty well all there is to be known about the majority of the runners, so that the favourites should have a good day—although they do not always have matters their own way at Woodville, a spot where some genuine surprises have been sprung upon an unsuspecting public. Hast meeting there was Grand Acre, for instance. However, there is to-morrow’s card to be covered, and on their recent form the following should be well sup- ‘ ported: Oringi Hurdles (11.45 a.m. > : Locarno and Novar. Maiden Stakes; Kinross and Shot Silk. Woodville Cup. Oratrix and Kilmezzo. j County Handicap: Bernerg and Monetize.

Ruahine Handicap: Commendation and Miss Pat. Sapling Stakes Handicap: Royal Parade and Hot Sprin9s. Victoria Handicap: Royal Lineage and Billion. President’s Handicap: Moutoa Treasury and Gold Cure. RIDING ENGAGEMENTS The following engagements have been announced for the Woodville meeting: T. Green: Bon Acre, Bernera, My Own, Callanmore and possibly Mister Gamp. R. Reed: Blimp, Kidgemount.
