OIL-MAN DOHENY’S SON SUICIDE FOLLOWS MURDER (Australian and X.Z. Press Association) LOS ANGELES, Monday. A sensational case of murder and suicide occurred at Los Angeles today. Mr. Edward Doheny, junr., whose father, Mr. E. L. Doheny, has figured prominently in the oil scandals of the past few years, was fatally shot by Hugh Plunkett, his private secretary, who had been a close friend of the family for many years. It is believed that Plunkett became demented owing to the strain of a long illness. He killed Mr. Doheny and then committed suicide just before a doctor arrived to prepare bim for an operation. He had heen in a highly nervous state for some time. The murdered man had been handling many of his father’s business affairs in the last few years.
