The introduction of volunteer labour in the timber mills, which began yesterday, has given a new and probably decisive turn to the timber strike. The officers of the Australian Council of Trade Uniorfs believe this phase necessitates employing the usual strike boycott, by declaring “black” everything entering or coming out of the yards; but the local strike committee is afraid that this policy would lead to an unwieldy extension of the strike, in view of the slackness of financial support. Three thousand men vigorously applauded the denunciations of the timber award and the court at the Town

in conjunction with the Governments of Australia and the States. Mr. J. S. Garden, secretary of the Trades nion Council, referring to the Lukin award, shouted: “If this is law, then to hell with law.” In the course of his later remarks, Mr. Garden, referring to Judge Lukin, said: “If I had my way, I would give him a long, long holiday.” He alleged that the timber merchants faked their figures and kept a double set of books. ADELAIDE MEN GIVE IN WILL OFFER FOR WORK Reed. 11 a.m. ADELAIDE, To-day. Timber worker* decided to offer for work this morning under the terms of the Lukin award. TIMBER YARD BURNED - PERTH, Monday. The timber and joinery yards of Running Brothers, Limited, West Perth, were destroyed by fire. The damage is estimated at £IOO,OOO. The blaze was seen many miles away.
