r . G. Moore Jones, of Levuka, arrived by the Tofua yesterday on a visit to Auckland. p. I). X. Verschaffelt, Public Service Commissioner, arrived by the Limited this morning. Mr. C. W. Heather returned to Auckland from Australia yesterday by the Steamer Port Melbourne. Mr. Alastavi Macfarlane, of Te Puke, has returned from Fiji, where he has been the guest of Lady Scott. Mr. C. J. Rolls, dean of the Bible Training Institute, will arrive in Auckland on February -4 on a world tour. Mr. Cyrus McCormick, president of ibe International Harvester Company, arrived from Sydney by the Ulimaroa to-day. Mr. K. H. Jack, of Wellington, who has been suffering a serious illness, arrived yesterdciy on a visit to Auckland. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates. Leader of the Opposition, arrived in Auckland from Wel’ington this morning. He is staying at the Grand Hotel. The Postmaster-General, the Hon. J. B. Donald, following his return to Wellington on Friday, will leave immediately for a tour of the South Island. Mr. A. M. Goulding, LL.B., has been appointed to the position of part-time lecturer in law to the Auckland University College from a list of five applicants. Mr. A. M. Chisholm, of Belfast, who has been appointed lecturer in architecture to the Auckland University College, has written stating that he cannot leave for New Zealand until the middle of March. Dr. Wilkie. Dr. Champtaloup, Dr. H. W. Wilson, Dr. W. H. Parkes and Dr. Anderson left by the second express last evening for Wellington, where they will attend the Medical Conference, which opens to-morrow. Mr. A. D. Cooke, a director of John Burns and Company, Ltd., is leaving by the Limited for Wellington as a representative of the Auckland Hardware Association, to attend the annual • onference of the New Zealand Hardware Guild. Mr. W. C Wylie, LL.B., of Wellington, has been appointed to a position on the staff of Hunter and Ronaldson, of Christchurch, and has taken up his duties. Mr. Wylie was Wellington secretary of the Auckland Grammar School Old Boys’ Association and of the Wellington Law Students* Society. Mr. A. It. Entrican, Forest Products Engineer to the State Forest Service, is seriously ill. This young engineer, who was sent abroad by the Government last year to make research into the possibilities of manufacturing paper from New Zealand’s enormous supplies of low-grade woods, is now at his home, almost completely paralysed as the result of embolism of the spine.
