Lively Work at Epsom To-Day
TRACK IN GOOD ORDER ETTA COLE’S FINE DISPLAY The training track at Epsom this morning was in splendid order, the dust nuisance being abated through the early use of the watering plant. Consequently the footing provided was keen and some last times were recorded. Koniniwood was given solid work, with several brushes over three furlongs, and the black mare showed fine dash, and is fast approaching her best form. (Treat Change, beginning quickly at the mile and a-half peg, soon put a break on Raima, who left his feet at the end of a furlong, giving'his rival a further advantage. Over the last halfmile Raima showed a rare turn of speed and was on terms with Great Change at the post. Rolfe Audubon slipped over a mile and a-.half in nice fashion, while his half-sister, Medusa, paced pleasingly over a couple of furlongs less. A. J. Julians pair are in good shape**. Great Way Goes Solid Great 'Way had Peter Lloyd as a companion in a test over J 2 furlongs, which was accomplished without mistake. The trotter was set a serious task over the final half by his pacing associate, but he was equal to the demand on his services, ft was a solid trot.' Nelson Tasker and Native Prince hopped away at the mile and ahalf disc, the former soon showing up in front. With two furlongs gone All Bell joined issue, and when the last half-mile was entered upon, Nelson Tasker and Native Prince were well clear of All Bell. There was no beg pardon in the final run and Nelson Tasker proved too speedy for his opponents, finishing up the task in great style. Halgana gave one of her best displays when asked to step over JO furlongs, with Coronet, who had several lengths start. The latter proved difficult to catch, but the mare finishing on gamely was handy at the post. Billy Carbine gave a solid exhibition of trotting, traversing two and a-half circuits faultlessly. Garth Robertson turned it on over the final circuit and Billy camo homo full of step pleasUseful Task The Abbey began better than Dillon Huon in a bout over 12 furlongs, and striding along smartly was well clear of his companion at the end of four furlongs. With a mile covered Dillon Huon had improved his position, and showing a fine turn of speed over the concluding stages, finished on terms with The Abbey in a soundly-run effort. Van Rich showed a big improvement on liis recent essays by getting to the end of a mile and a-half spin in great style, the pace being on over the last three furlongs. He has evidently got over his soreness. Uncle Bert conceded Direct Action several lengths from the 12-furlong peg, and was with him at the end of a mile. The trotter footed it stubbornly with Uncle till approaching the straight where ho left his feet and Bertie came home well in the van. The exhibition given solo fashion by Etta Cole was of a most impressive nature and the onlookers were more than ever convinced with her possibilities of reaching the top circle. A mile and a-half was her allotment and when the mile was left behind in smart time, F. Gilchrist asked Etta to go a bit quicker, with the result she landed home earlier than the fans thought possible. It was one of the gems of the morning. The Tartar was going nicely at the end of eight of his 12-furlong task when lie turned rusty and refused to settle dov. • some time. His driver then hustled him over another half when the old trotter made good time. Goldman went away from the twomile peg with Pearl Fisher, but the latter was not of much assistance. With hale the journey covered Peggy do Oro joined in and kept Goldie company o • 'ive furlongs, when she eased lip. Goldman continued to the post alone, but he was' stopping when the line was reached. Horizon and Dad’s Hope hopped off at the 10-furlong mark, the latter not going too kindly over the first 100yds. When the pair arrived at the mile post, Admiral Lock took them on and the next circuit was interesting, the trio being well together. Two furlongs from home Horizon weakened, and Dad’s Hope and Admiral Lock were having a duel to the box .when the former tangled, leaving the Admiral to sail home in front. Southerners Arrive W. J. Tonikinson arrived from Wellington this morning with Glideaway, Logan Park, Rose Marie, Tonic and Happy Rosa to fulfil their Otahuhu engagements. The Addington team bears a well-seasoned appearance and threatens to capture a fair sliaye of the spoils. Roy Berry is due to arrive to-morrow morning with Dundas Boy. Jean McKlwvn. Curfew Boy and Koro Peter. Machine Gun has latterly been under the care of Alan McMillan al Tamahere, who will drive him in the Cup. J.
