A HEAVY OFFERING
AUCKLAND’S WOOL SALE CATALOGUE OF 28,000 BALES The second Auckland sale of the 1928-29 wool-selling season opens in the Town Hall on Saturday evening. A total catalogue of approximately 28,100 bales, compared with 22,375 bales at the corresponding sale of last year, will be offered to buyers. Although the offering will be made up of a large percentage of backcountry wools, the Quality, generally, is reported to be well up to the average for Auckland at this time of the year. Crossbred wools will predominate. Buyers are expected to arrive on Thursday, following the Wellington sale, which opens to-day. The report of this sale should be read with considerable interest by Auckland sellers, as it should give a very good indication of what to expect on Saturday. The New Zealand market has registered a weakening tendency over the past month. In Dunedin on February 5 crossbred wools were down about Id on the market at the time of the first sale of the season for that centre. The Dunedin offering' totalled* 27,200 bales. Three days later at Timaru an offering of 22,272 bales found a market on a par to slightly easier than at the Dunedin fixture. Christchurch, on the 13th inst., with an offering of 24,031 ! bales, reported prices for crossbreds up to lid down on the sale held there in ! January. A very pleasing feature of the market at the moment is the wide spread I of buying points, with Bradford showing increasing strength on the lower levels. Actual figures for the Auckland sale are not yet scheduled, but the approximate offerings of the individual brokers in the order of sale are as follow: Dalgety and Company, Ltd., and the North Auckland Farmers, in conjunc- I tion, 9,200 bales. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., 4 100! bales. Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd., 2,050 bales. Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, 6,000 bales. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company. 6,750 bales.
