FUND FOR POOR MINERS JSriti&b Official Wireless RUGBY, Saturday. Sir Robert Ho Tung, one of the merchant princes of Hong-Kong, has given A; 1,000 to tlie miners’ relief fund. He was led to make the donation by the appeal of the Prince of Wales. Sir Robert, who was knighted by the late King Edward for his services in Hong-Kong, is known as the prince of compradors. which is the name given to Chinese officials who act as links between British merchants and the people of China. He was formerly chief comprador at Hong-Kong for the firm of Jardine, Mathieson and Company. He was also Hong-Kong Commissioner at the Wembley Exhibition.
