Summer Glory
Brilliant Blooms in Albert Park ZINNIAS HOLD PRIDE OF PLACE One of the most lovely sights in Auckland at present is a bed of zinnias in Albert Park. Among the masses of colour in other beds and borders, these flowers hold pride of place for their masses of rich, warm colour. Nearby are two beds of cannas, whose beautiful reds and yellows stand almost as high as a fan and flame with a flamboyant grandeur.
Albert Park is a rainbow-tinted area this summer. Along Princes Street the scarlet geraniums outline the long border with a brilliant splash of colour, setting off to perfection the clumps of dahlias, hydrangia and lilies.
Two beds of specially imported dahlias, of which there are about 50 varieties, are just bursting in bloom Around the fountain the beds have been delightfully set out in various colour schemes, a mauve-coloured dahlia predominating. The same riot of colour Is to be seen in the cultivated corners of the Domain, which is looking particularly beautiful at present.
Pour figures, representing the four elements, have been placed in position in the court of the winter garden. This almost completes the court, which Is an attractive spot of checkered light and shade on hot summer days. The water lilies in the pool are starting to bloom, and the sheltered flower beds are radiant with delicate flowers. A start has ben made with a fernery at the back of the winter garden. Carpenters are busy with the framework, but it will be some time before any planting is done.
