A GUSH OF OIL

Sir,— As one who occasionally dabbles in moderate investment, but did not participate in the recent boom in oil shares, I was interested to see the official statement that the Blenheim oil bore in Taranaki “spouted” at the rate of 4,000 gallons an hour. The announcement nearly tempted me to rush for a parcel of shares. Later, however, I was astonished and consoled to read an explanation that such a splendid flow lasted only for a minute and a-half. So, the “gush” was nothing more productive than two barrels of oil. All things considered, on that basis the shares rose quicker than the oil. OBSERVER. Kaitaia.
