GOVERNMENT PROMISES £SOO FOR REPAIRS (Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. In response to an urgent request by the Provincial Buildings Board, the Prime Minister to-day promised £SOO toward the cost of repairing the Canterbury Provincial Buildings. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes said that the sum of €I,OOO had been the estiainte of the Public Works Department for the work. The sum of £SOO was required immediately. Mr. E. J. Howard. M.P., said that Canterbury had been given a “kind of white elephant with nothing to feed him on.” It needed repairing before the -winter. Sir Joseph Ward said that £SOO for the work would be authorised during the next session of Parliament.
