THREE YOUTHS CHARGED ALL SENT TO BORSTAL Press Association WELLINGTON, Friday. Three youths, Arthur Edward Cowper, T revelyn Birdling Otten and Eric James Ferguson, pleaded guilty at the Police Court to-day to unlawfully converting cars to their own use. These were the three young men who were reported some days ago as having toured from the South Island by this method Otten was also charged with the theft of an overcoat valued at £4. Ferguson admitted stealing two motorcycle tyre levers and a spanner, and Cowper admitted the theft of a pair of socks, a tie and a shirt.

All the accused belong to Christchurch. They took the car to Christchurch, abandoned it there, taking another to Invercargill and back to Timaru, where they abandoned the car in a ditch. They took another car at Waimate, abandoning it near Christchurch, where they picked up a fourth car and went to Hokitika, thence to Nelson, where this vehicle was also abandoned in a quarry. Some of the cars were damaged. The thefts were committed on the journeys Besides those in the c.hargres there was a trail of benzine thefts.

Cowper and Ferguson each were sentenced to three years at the Borstal and Otten to tw'o years.
