CHRISTCHURCH SOLICITOR The death is reported from Christchurch of Mr. Robert Beecher Ward, the second son of the Rev. C. E. Ward and the late Mrs. Ward, at the age < f 49. Mr. Ward had been a partner in the legal firm of Weston, Ward and Lascelles for nearly 24 years. He became ill three weeks ago while in Melbourne, where he went to witness the third test match. Mr. Ward, who was born in Invei - cargill, received his early education in Wellington and Dunedin, completing it at Prince Albert College, Auckland. In 1911 he married Miss Ellen Graham Brown, of Nelson. He is survived by his widow and one daughter. Mr. Ward was very prominent in athletic circles. He was the honorary treasurer of the Canterbury Cricket Association for many years. MR. THOMAS HARKINS Auckland lost another old resident last evening, when Mr. Thomas Harkins died suddenly at his residence, 62 Mays Street, Devonport. Born in Auckland 62 years ago, Mr. Harkins was the son of an old pioneer. Mr. Patrick Harkins, who established and carried on a cooper’s business in Swanson Street. Mr. Thomas Harkins was engaged in business as a wholesale tinsmith in Ponsonby Road for many years, re- • tiring about 1917. He was a prom{inent member of the Working Men s ! Club and c the Thames Old Boys* As- [ sociation. lie married Miss Annie Hampton, i daughter of Mr. W. Hampton, formerly j waterworks engineer to the city «»f Auckland, and is survived by his widow, two sons and a daughter. The I funeral will take place to-day.
