BEAT WOMEN’S RECORD
PARNELL GIRL’S FINE SWIMMING bridson does n.z. time Brilliant performances by Peggy Robertson and Gordon Bridson made swimming sensational at the Grammar Club's second carnival last evening at the Tepid Baths. The youne Parnell Kiri was credited mi th beating by one-fifth of a second us Ve»' Zealand record of 65 3-5 sec‘nj»‘ put up in 1925 by Ena Stockley "ll; 'the women's 100 yards. Dorothy rrant who dead-heated with Miss Robrtson in the race, had a second start Julias timed over the distance to do ~ 2-5 seconds. Previously Miss Grant has been locked to break 69 seconds only. so. . the official time were correct, the nrrformances of both girls were exceptional. It is hard to see that Miss I'rant has improved so suddenly on hor times. Privately clocked, she covered the dista nee in much slower time. Still Miss* Robertson’s swim was b.ril--ant. and th-:> time was quite within probability as. in a handicap race at Wellington oi Saturday she equalled the record. Her finishing sprint last evening **as impressive, too. GREAT SWIM Gordon Bridson equalled the 22uyds record of 2m. 31s. put up by the Canti»fburv man Stokes at Wellington in ;he flr»t heat last evening. This, although Bridson clid not have competition from D. P. Lindsay, who has contracted influenza. Instead, he had to overtake Edna Champion, who swam pluckily in a mixed race, and won a place in the final. Bridson has been swimming near the record all the season and has improved on it in one race. He could have done better in the event at Wellington, but. sven though he was not at his best, he later won the quarter mile and the half mile titles. A long programme was got off successfully. Mr. D. B. Anderson gave an interesting demonstration, and the Ponsoriby diving troupe appeared. Mr. E. H. Potter, for the Swimming Centre, welcomed Auckland’s representatives and outlined the successes at Wellington. Results: SOYds. Novice Handicap.—First heat: J. Stehr (Par.h 3s, 1; K.
