THEFTS IN WAITAKERES

BOTTLES ON ROADS COMPLAINTS TO A.A.A. For some time past bach owners in the Waitakeres have suffered from depredations by marauders. Baches have been broken into, beds used, and foodstuffs stolen. There was some suggestion that motorists were responsible for these actions. The A.A.A. discussed the position last evening, but the chairman, Mr. A. Grayson, believed there was a person or more living by this method in the hills, as his own family had lost provisions over-night when living up there. Mr. F. G. Farrell said he had passed at least two dozen bottles on the road from Cambridge to Huntly. Apparently a vehicle conveying a party of hooligans liberally supplied with beer had passed, discarding bottles on the way.

“People don’t realise that the remains of a bottle run over by a balloontvred car travelling at 35 miles an hour might cause a capsize, and several deaths,” said Mr. Farrell. “It is a most dangerous thing to do. and an offender should get three months without the option.”
