NO SCHOOL TEXT BOOKS
“BUREAUCRATIC CONTROL” BLAMED TROUBLE IN HAMILTON (Prom Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Wednesdayi “This move appears to me to be only another instance of bureaucratic control,” declared All*. F. A. Snell, one of Hamilton’s representatives on the Auckland Education Board, referring to the new primary school syllabus, the operation of which has been seriously' hampered through the department neglecting to have the text-books prepared in time. “Everything seems to be run by’ civil servants now, who have such wide powers that they do what they like.” Mr. Snell sympathised with the difficulties faced by teachers, who cannot advance the new courses without the books. He also endorsed the protests of parents at the increasing cost of school books, particularly' this year. He stated that it was his intention to make inquiries at the next meeting of the Education Board.
