THE SECRETS OF STRADIVARIUS
It has been reported from Milan that the Italian Government, rather than allow the Stradivarius documents to leave Italy, has ordered their confiscation. Their value has been estimated at i £ 12.000 . These docujncnis, written by j Stradivarius, the master violinmaker, reveal the secrets of his I art. They were recently discovered at llergamo. Italy, where a priest, friendly to the Stradivarius family ; removed from Cremona early in the lSth century. The priest left a box which was found in an attic after a lapse of years and sold to a furniture dealer, lie. after discovering and selling the manuscripts it contained. rebought them and resold them to the Milan violin expert, j Signor Sandro Bisiaeh. They constitute a priceless record of Stradivarius's life and times. Most important is a monograph cn violin-making, disclosing the secrets of his art in dealing with wood, varnish, glue, bordering, and shape.
