YOUTH AT DANCE-HALL “CONTEMPTIBLE THEFTS” . “Contemptible” was how SubInspector McCarthy described the actions of William Johnson, who was charged with theft at. the Police Court this morning. Johnson had been going through clothing left in the dressing room of a combined picture show and dance hall at Taka puna. He was described as a farm-hand, aged 20, and pleaded guilty to stealing a box of rouge, a stick of chocolate, a tiepin and 17s 6d, According to the sub-inspector, Johnson, who was staying at a bach in Milford, had been going through the pockets of girls’ coats left in the dressing room of the entertainment house. He had been drinking but was by no means hard up. Johnson was fined £1 and costs, in default 21 days’ imprisonment.
