HAURAKI. —The manager reports: The water which accumulated during the recent stoppage for repairs to the drawlift has been taken out. The rising on the Stockwood reef from the 400 ft level to the Union Beach section has been resumed. A start has been made to rig the gear for lifting the rising main to remove the broken valve piece and to put the new one in. This should be ready tor lifting to-morrow and it is expected to have the plunger working by the end of this week. OCCIDENTAL UNA. —The manager reports: We have driven another sft south on the No. 2 reef, making a total of 20ft. Another set of timber has been put in. Driving is being continued and the country passed through is looking very well. The reef, which averages about sft in width, has colours of gold all through it. All quartz has been saved for crushing, which will be resumed when there is sufficient water for the battery. LUCKY SHOT.— -The manager reports: We have completed the crushing of 15 leads of general dirt, weight 50 tons, for a return of 90oz of melted gold. One hundred and ten pounds of selected stone were alsc put through, giving a return of 50oz lSdwt of melted gold, making the total return 140 oz lSdwt, valued at £382 ISs. The total costs of the crushing amount to £45. The whole of the general dirt was taken from the last workings on the reef, averaging 3ft 6in south of No. 1 winze. At the present time work on this face is suspended until the rise from the low level is completed. This rise should be through in about three weeks’ time. On completion of the ventilation scheme I intend to continue sinking on the run of gold we now have showing in both faces. While this work is proceeding I also intend to drive on the hanging-wall dropper north of No. 2 winze, from which good values were obtained some months ago, lack of ventilation having hitherto prevented further work in this direction. We are indebted to the directors of the Moanataiari Company for the facilities afforded us in our recent crushing and, as development work proceeds, -we will be enabled to still further use the facilities offered. In mv opinion the return from the trial crushing of general dirt is highly satisfactory and undoubtedly warrants the carrying on of the development scheme now in hand. The low’ level just opened gives 130 ft of additional vertical backs, equal to 200 ft on the underlie of the reef.
