FLOODS SHIFT SOUTH
N.S.W. RAIN TORRENTS TRAIN’S NARROW ESCAPE (United B.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright) Reed. 10.5 a.rn. SYDNEY, To-day. While the flood waters on the north coast are receding, torrential rains fell on the south coast, causing grave concern. The Kempsey mail train had a narrow escape when it nearly ran into a landslide blocking the line near Gloucester. The Hawkesbury River is now 20 feet above its summer level. The police are informed that heavy floods are rushing toward Windsor.
There is a trail of destruction right along the north coast of New South Wales.
Cattle, crops and furniture have been washed out to sea. Drowned cattle are coming down the Manning River at Taree four abreast. The Government is doing its best to aid the farmers and settlers.
The police are rendering great assistance in rescuing human lives and live stock.
