DR. H. D. A. MAJOR RETURNS

HEAD OF RIPON HALL, OXFORD

After an absence of 27 years the Rev. Dr. H. D. A. Major, principal of Ripon Hall, Oxford, England, has returned to New Zealand, but only on holiday. Dr. Major is the son of a Kati Kati settler. He had a brilliant university career. After serving with the Church, in New Zealand he went to England and became principal of Ripon Hall, an important theological college. Several other important positions are held by Dr. Major. He is examining chaplain to the Bishop of Birmingham, examiner at the University of London and editor of "The Modern Churchman.”

The doctor is an exponent of modernism and the publication which he edits expresses the views of modern Church thought.

Dr. Major was educated at St. John’s College, Auckland, and at the Auckland University College where he took his M.A. with first-class honours. Later he went to Exeter College, Oxford, where he gained the Canon Hall Greek test prize. Before his appointment to Ripon Hall Dr. Major held several other important Church positions.

Among the publications of Dr. Major are "The Gospel of Freedom,” "A Resurrection of Relics,” "Life and Letters of Bishop Boyd-Carpenter,” and "English Modernism.”
