There was an unsatisfied demand for breeding ewes at a special fair conducted by Dalgety and Company, Limited, at Frankton to-day. The varding totalled 10.500 Romney-Lincoln cross ewes, 4,000 of which came from Masterton, and 6,500 from Gisborne. There was an exceptionally large attendance of buyers, and every sheep offered changed hands under the hammer. The auctioneer, Mr. C. Christie, disposed of the whole yarding in an hour. About 4,500 of the sheep sold went to Raglan and Kawhia, 2,000 to Cambridge, 1,000 to Taupiri and 2,000 to Morrinsville and AV aihou. An exceptionally good line of five-year-old ewes from Masterton so*d at 325. They were ideal sheep for the fat lamb trade. There was keen competition for the four and six-year ewes from Gisborne. several lines selling at from 33s to 365. There was keen competition from Japanese, German and Yorkshire buyers. The market was very firfn at the closing rates of last week. Comebacks and crossbreds maintained good levels.
