RACING AT GISBORNE

SPRINT TO GOOD SPORT TWO OUTSIDERS SCORE (Special to THE SUE) GISBORNE, Saturday. The Gisborne Racing Club’s summer meeting was concluded to-day in ideal weather. The attendance was large and the course was in good condition. The totalisator handled £13,867, compared with £13,164 on the second day last year, when the card contained eight races instead of seven as this year. The total for the meeting was £25,147, compared with £23,586 last year. The favourites had a good day at Gisborne, King Manu leading off with a runaway win in the Juvenile from Rich Harvest and Wedding Bell. Bold Front won the Taruheru in a sound finish with Abisogne, who was not well placed until reaching the straight. All started in the Trial and after Ardri had piloted the field to the straight. Pereki shot out to lead, but was overhauled in the last few strides by Sun Yat Sen. an outsider, who paid a substantial dividend. Pale Star was favourite for the Gold Cup, but Singleton was well backed. The latter won in a close tussle with Good Sport, who ran in front nearly the full distance, with Princess Mgata third, and Pale Star not in the first four. Purse Proud got home in the Highweight by a neck from the fast finishing The Author, after a good race from the bottom of the straight. Plimmerton won again in the Awapuni, in which Mahi was favourite but failed to get among the money. The winner got command early and never gave anything else a chance in the straight.
