MAJESTIC

SUCCESS OF “MOULIN ROUGE”

“Moulin Rouge,” acclaimed by the large audience at the Majestic Theatre on Saturday evening as one of the finest films ever seen in Auckland, will be screened again this evening. This feature, which is a British International production, is by far the best of its kind yet offered by the British film industry for public entertainment. The lighting effects are particularly striking, lendrng a resplendent atmosphere to the production. A thrill ran through the audience, caused by the terrible car smash which was one of the high-lights of the story. The merest details were not overlooked in the direction of this film by E. A. Dupont, whose genius is responsible for the success which “Moulin Rouge” has achieved. The theme is a free adaptation from the original idea by the director, portraying the infatuation of a young man for the beautiful mother of his fiancee and its consequences. The dramatisation is excellently cast, with such -well-known players as Olga Tschechowa, Eve Gray and Jean Bradin, in the leading roles, supported by a huge caste, which includes the whole personnel of the “New York Paris Revue Company, 1928.” The remainder of the fine programme includes a Majestic Magazine and comedy, a film novelty, “Amazing Lovers,” and a colourful Stage Band presentation, featuring the “Seven Crazy Clown Syncopators,” and Miss Folole Lilliokalani. New musical selections are played by Mr. Whiteford-Waugh’s Majestic Orchestra.
