SUSPICIOUS OUTBREAK
FIRE AT OTAHUHU
The Otahuhu Fire Brigade received a call at 10.30 p.m. on Saturday to the fifth fire on council property in just over twelve months.
The roof and wall of a wooden shed, situated at the rear of the Council Chambers, in Great South Road, was found to be alight. A. partition and rear wall were damaged. There was nothing stored in the shed.
On examination yesterday morning, it was found that the rear outside wall had been saturated with kerosene, and a small room on the end of the shed, containing a quantity of charred newspaper, also saturated with kerosene.
The police are making inquiries. Four previous outbreaks have occurred in the buildings on the council’s depot in Hutton Street, Otahuhu, and in each instance the circumstances have been considered suspicious.
