CHINESE MASONS GO TO BROWN’S ISLAND
Fireworks and the weird and wonderful music of a Chinese orchestra combined to give a typically Eastern atmosphere to the ferry boat Pupuke as it moved away from Queen's Wharf yesterday morning.
The occasion was the Auckland Chinese Masonic {Society’s annual picnic, and Brown’s Island was the destination. From tne bow floated the flag of the Chinese Republic* and at the stern the emblem of the lodge. Upon arrival at the island lunch was served in a large marquee, when the European guests were welcomed by Mr. C. Gin, secretary. A sports programme was held, including a Soccer match between a Chinese team and a European team, the latter. winning by one goal. The Ponsonby Junior Boys’ Band was also in attendance.
The Warren Engineering Company held its 15th annual picnic at Pine Island on Saturday, when about 300 employees and their friends made the trip on the ferry boat Pupuke. The children were well catered for with toys, lollies and ice cream, etc. A good sports programme was run which was keenly contested, the prizes being presented to the winners on the home trip by Air. J. W. Warren. Results were:
