PAST AND PRESENT

MINISTERS OF EDUCATION A unique feature of the opening <?f the Y.M.C.A.’s Hostel in Allendale Road, Mount Albert, on Saturday afternoon was that two Ministers of Education, one past and the other now in office, were present. The new Minister of Education, the Hon. H. Atmore, performed the opening ceremony. Sir George Fowlds, who was Minister of Education and Public Health in the Ward Cabinet from 1906 to 1911, was present as the representative of the Costley trustees. In the course of a brief speech Sir George expressed the view that in Mi*. Atmore New Zealand had a very capable Minister of Education, who would do his best with what both he and the present Minister considered “the most important portfolio in the Cabinet.”
