MR. J. C. BENJAMIN
Mr. John Christian Benjamin, who died in Auckland last week at the age of 81, lived at Birkdale until a few years ago, and he was well-known to yachtsmen as the “Hermit of Sharks Bay.” He had a cottage in the bay behind Kauri Point, and except for summer campers lie was the only resi-. dent. Despite a very long walk Mr. Benjamin was a regular attendant at the Sunday services at the Methodist Church, and he was a Sunday School teacher at Birkdale for many years.
