CLEVEDON SHOW

SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE

HIGH QUALITY OF STOCK

Viewed from every angle, the 20th annual fixture of the Clevedon A. and P. Association was an outstanding success. Considering the size of the district drawn from, the quality of the stock exhibits was most satisfactory, while the attendance of visitors was close to record figures. The feature of the show was undoubtedly the high standard of the work in the hacks’ and hunters’ competition classes. These sections were exceptionally well supported and provided convincing testimony to the fact that the horse is not being allowed to become a back number in the Clevedon district.

While not quite up to the standard of that seen at some of the larger shows, and no doubt effected by the fact that many of the bigger breeders are getting ready for the Franklin Show this week, the entries in the dairy cattle classes were quite satisfactory. There was little of outstanding quality, however.

The sheep section was a most creditable one with the champion Romney ram exhibited by Mr. F. Mullins the outstanding exhibit of the show. A splendid type of Romney, it was fit for exhibition in any show ring.

In the Romney section, A. D. Bell took the greatest number of prizes, with F. Mullins, the only other exhibitor, securing three places. J. Duder was the only exhibitor of Sliropshires, M. Kelly was the only exhibitor of Merinos. Three exliibtors, E. M. Wilson, D. Ryburn and E. P. Overy, supported the English Leicester section, the first-named taking the majority of the prizes. A. D. Bell, G. A. Bell, J- A. Bell, A. S. Bell, J. R. Self and N. J. Sutherland gave the Southdown section their support. Captain G. A. Humplireys-Davles was the only exhibitor of Corriedales. Although entries were not lai'ge, the quality of the pigs was most creditable. The winning tickets were divided between T. M. Davies and H. W. Driver. CHAMPIONSHIPS Horses.—Hack: P. H. TE AWAMUTU SHOW (From Our Own Corres oondent ) TE AWAMUTU, Saturday. The date for the holding of the Te Awamutu Agricultural , Pastoral and Horticultural Association’s annual show, February 20, is drawing near, and with a view to finalising arrangements a meeting of the committee took place on Friday evening, when there were present: Alessrs. S. A. Empson, G. Reynolds. E. G. Humphrey. V. Pollard. A. E. Ray, Geo. Hall, H. Allen, F. J. B. Ryburn, S. C. Alacky, W. G. Alacky, PI. Alandeno, W. Walker, Pi. T. Hodgson and the secretary, Mr. J. G. W ynyard. It was reported by the secretary that entries had come in fairly well, and though the totals had not yet been completed it was evident that there would be very keen competition in some of the classes. In others, the entries so far listed were somewhat disappointing, but it is anticipated that when the final lists were made up there would be good competition. It was decided after discussion to extend the closing date for entries in all sections to Thursday, February 14, at 5 o’clock. A donation of £ 1 for a. class for twotooth ewe was available. Class 52A will be for this and Class 53 will be for ewe, four-tooth and over. Air. H. Alandeno offered a load of soft turnips for stock exhibited and Air. W. G. Alacky donated a load of lucerne. Air. C. Hinton offered a holding paddock for stock arriving by train. All offers were gladly accepted.
