MECHANIC SENTENCED
THREE YEARS’ GAOL PAWNBROKER ROBBED “You have such a record that you stand a good chance of being declared a habitual criminal if you appear before a court again,” said Air. Justice Blair in sentencing Cecil John Francis Hunt to three years’ imprisonment on a charge of receiving stolen goods and one year on a charge of theft, the sentences to be concurrent. Hunt, a mechanic, who was remanded for sentence from earlier in the week, was found guilty in connection with the theft of a quantity of jewellery and sundry articles, valued at £l2O, from Meltzer Bros., pawnbrokers, Victoria Street, on the night of June 25 last. Air. Rudd, who represented Hunt, said prisoner had already been in gaol for six months: three months on a charge of vagrancy, which was the direct result of his iinpending trial on the present charge, and three months awaiting trial. Ho asked that a short, sharp term of imprisonment be imposed. His Honour, in passing sentence, said prisoner had been the companion of thieves for a long time. • An order was made for the return of the stolen "*-operty.
