It gives us pleasure to place before you our opinions on Studebaker cars and their performances. Since 1923, Studebakers have played the most important part in our Transport Service since its institution. In August, 1923, our first 7-passenger Big Sis Studebaker. pur. chased from you. made its appearance, and immediately created a precedent for comfortable seven-passenger car service. Up to 40,000 miles repairs for this car were practically negligible, as the only part requiring replacement in that period was a small front wheel bearing. So satisfied were we with this car’s performance that we have since added four more 7-pass. Big Sis Studebakers to our fleet, and our very latest addition is a 7-passenger Straight Eight Sedan, which in eight months has travelled 14,000 miles without any sign of trouble. The first Big Six travelled about 85.000 miles in our employ and is now in other hands and still going well over rough country roads. The next car has travelled 80,000 miles, and the last three Big Sixes have each done nearly 50,000 miles at a minimum of expense. The petrol consumption of the Big Sixes js 18 miles per gallon, and the Straight Eight gives about 15 to 16 miles to the gallon, all of which we regard as very satisfactory Oil consumption is nil, as oil is drained and refilled every 1500-2000 miles without having to add any in the meantime. In conclusion, we wish to state that the quality and long life built into Studebaker bodies is a mark of the workmanship displayed by Studebaker. In our opinion, Studebaker body work is unsurpassed. My Studebaker Commander has now'done over 2,000 miles—Fetrol consumption is still running out at over 20 miles per gallon ; Dunedin run, 246 miles, 12 gals. - 201Christchurch to Picton, 243, 12 gals.. In each case the spirit was filled to overflow in tank and at completion of tnps. same method followed, the car being filled on the level. I am a careful driver but this car gives speed with safety and carefulness. There is no anxiety at 40 m.p.b. It’s like driving at 25. We went from here to Dunedin on top gear and, considering the speed limits through the villages and on Mount Cargill, 1 was surprised we made such time. To Picton we cut two hours off the best 1 have ever done and all the time observing strict caution. The trip can be done on top but owing to the sharp bends on hills in the interests of safety I came down to second, which the usual run of drivers I am sure would not do. Dear Sirs, You may be interested to know that t have )ust completed a trip from Christchurch to Palmerston South, thence to Lake Wanaka through Ranfurly and Cromwell, then on to Queenstown, from Queenstown to Te Anan and Manapouri, from there on to Riverton and back to Christchurch, 1,200 miles in aD. I naturally passed over very indifferent roads during the journey, and carried a very heavy tent and poles, mattress, blankets, a hamper of food, some petrol cases containing necessary goods on the running board, my tent poles on the front bumper, and carrying personal clothing on the back earner, with four people in the car, naturally a very heavy load I had a non-stop run without any troubles of any sort except one puncture. The car stood the hills beautifully, even with the big load aboard. 1 tested her with the petrol consumption on the home run and the distance travelled was 251 miles, via Raes Junction and Lawrence and in ana around Timaru, which was done on IS gallons. I railed the tent from Southland, thus reducing the load somewhat, and she elimbed the hills just Uke a bird and it was very pleasing to sit behind the wheel. Yours faithfully, (Signed) J. MURPHY.
