“Looking Down on The Cocky ”
“T AM putting it very plainly to educationalists present wl/;n I say that a feeling of snobbery toward farm work is growing among our boys,” said Mr. A. G. Lunn, Chamber of Commerce representative in a deputation to the Hon. H. Atmore, Minister of. Education, this morning. “They are looking down on the cocky,” he added. “We have got to get rid of that feeling. It is unworthy. “The same applies to domestic service. This form of employment seems to be looked down on by girls who stick labels on jam bottles in factories.” The Minister agreed that children seemed to be obtaining a false standard of “respectable” occupations instead of being taught the dignity of labour, which was much more than an empty platitude.
