Heavy Trading on ’Change

THE heavy volume of business registered throughout the week was continued to the close. The market for all tested securities remains very firm.

FLUCTUATIONS Some of the principal movements over the past 24 hours, compared with the previous sale, are; — ? Taranaki Oils, faM of 6d. - Kauri Timber, fall of 1s 9d. ~ L.eyland-o'Brien, fall of 6d. Waihi Mining, fall of Id. • * * Z! Staples Breweries, fall of 1s 6d. - Westport Coals (in Wellington), rise -»» 1 »- . Goldsbrough Mort (in the South), rise of 2s 2d. Victoria Nyanza Sugar (in the South), y rise of 3d. * * * IX the banking group Commercials of Australia, dropped to cx div. 'levels, have a middle price of 29s lyd. -New Zealands are strongly held at 3d ' above late high levels, -with buyers ~ioffering 62s 6d. Further sales of New t-omh Wales have been put through at .yesterday's improved price of £3l 13s. * * * Coals have a slightly easier tendency all round. Renowns, offered at ’yesterday’s selling price of 18s, only drew 17s 6d from buyers at this morning's call. Buyers offered 66s 6d for - 3?ukemiros. Westports are an excep-

tion, firming to see business in Well' ington at 31s yesterday.

Increased attention is being paid to timbers. Kauris were dealt with yesterday afternoon at 17s 6d, Is 9d below the market at the time of the last sale, made shortly after the announcement on the dividend at the end of last year. Leyland O’Briens were also dealt with on a slightly easier market. Bartholomews are sought at 18s, compared with a buying price of 18s 6d at the time of the last sale made during the second week in December.

Little movement is registered in the miscellaneous group. Taranaki Oils are weaker, sales being made this morning at 6s, compared with 6s 6d in Auckland yesterday, and a peak price of Ss in Wellington.

Business yesterday afternoon.— On ’Change: Kauri Timber, 17s 6d; NZ. Insurance, 48s; Oliiriemuri Mining, 8s 4d; Waihi Mining, 14s 2d. Reported: Staples Breweries, 42s 9d: Lucky Shot Mining (con.), 9d; Bank of New South Wales, £sl 15s; North Auckland Farmers’ Co-operative (B pref.). 8s 9d: Devonport. Steam, 24s 4Ad; British Tobaco, 40s Od.
