BOY BADLY HURT

KNOCKED DOWN BY LORRY

ACCIDENT AT PAPAKURA Knocked down by a heavy lorry when he was crossing the road to the Papakura School this morning, a little boy, Mervyn Paul, aged 5 years 9 months, received severe injuries to the head and was taken to hospital. Mervyn, who lives with his parents in Beach Road, about three miles from the school, received a lift in a van this morning. He got out of the van at 8.30 and was crossing the road behind the vehicle when a lorry driven by Colin Creighton Peterson, cream carrier, of Paparata, ran into him. The driver was going slowly and he pulled up smartly, so that the lorry did not run over the boy but only knocked him down. The lad had received bad injuries to his head. He received medical treatment and was brought to the Auckland Hospital.

Eti3 condition was serious, and an operation was performed at noon today.
