BRILLIANT O’SHEA
ANOTHER FINE CONCERT
* An excellent and varied programme > was given by Mr. Alfred O’oiiea in his \ third concert at the Town 1-lall last evening. His beautiful tenor voice was heard by an appreciative audience in many old favourites, and in response ; to prolonged applause, lie gave songs ; which had been requested. In Mr. O’Shea’s opening number. “La ; Fleur” (The Flower Song), from “Carmen” his tenor tones were perfectly produced, as they were also in Cowan’s “At the Mid Hour of Night.” A feature of the evening’s programme was the devotional “Agnus Dei” (Bizet). This was presented with organ, piano and violin accompaniment. The lengthy introduction was well played by the instrumentalists, Mr. O’Shea weaving his vocal tones in smoothly, rising in volume to the closing bars. Further successes were two Irish comedies, “The Low-back’d Car” and “Molly Brannigan,” which were songs that had been requested, as also were “Ombra Mai Fu” (Handel’s Largo), with organ accompaniment, “Oft in the Stilly Night” and the old English song, “Ben Bolt.” Miss Theo Tlalpin accompanied Mr. O’Shea in all his numbers, and was also responsible for several pianoforte solos, one of which was from her own pen. Miss Ina Bosworth gave Tartini’s fine variations of a Corelli theme, and Miss Mavis Grevatt contributed solos on her harp, “Rising of the Lark” (Thomas) and “The Last Rose of Summer” (Moore). Mr. E. S. Craston was organist. Mr. O’Shea’s final concert will be given in the Town Hall to-morrow evening.
