MAJESTIC
“MOULIN ROUGE” THIS EVENING
[ Paris in all its gaiety—is the setting for a powerful emotional story, having the world-renowned “Moulin Rouge” as i its background—will be presented on the screen at the Majestic Theatre this evening in the 8.1. P. production, “Moulin Rouge.” Produced by E. A. Dupont, the director of “Variety,” this film promises to be of even greater entertainment than that gigantic Ufa masterpiece, that thrilled Auckland audiences some months ago with its gripping story of Continental show life. The story of “Moulin Rouge,” which is exceptionally unusual in its plot, deals with a young couple, who visit the “M o u 1 i n Rouge,” where the girl’s mother is the star. The young man, struck by the overwhelming beauty of his p r ospective mother in law, immediately falls in love with her, she, too, being attracted but loyally puts her daughter's happiness first. Following a terrible car smash, in which the girl is seriously injured, the mother returns to the stage, and the young couple prepare for their honeymoon on the girl’s recovery. Featured as the girl in this production, is Eve Gray, the beautiful Australian actress, who will be remembered for winning a beauty contest in Sydney a few years-ago. Olga Tschechowa, who plays Miss Gray’s mother, is a Continental actress, famous for her magnificent work on both stage and screen. The part of the fiance is excellently portrayed by Jean Bradin. A brilliant combination of musical stars are the “Seven Crazy Clown Syncopators,” who are appearing twice daily at the Majestic. Included in the programme rendered by the musicians is “Maori Medley.” “Saxophobia,” “Beautiful Blues,” “The Rag Doll” and “The Black Bottom.” Mr. Whiteford Waugh’s Majestic Orchestra will include the following musical gems in his incidental musical programe: “Caucasian Sketches,” “Intermezzo” (Delibes), Three Dances from Opera, “The Bartered Bride” (Smetana), “Suite Orientale” (Popy) “Dance Russe Trepak” from “The Nutcracker Suite” (Tschaikowsky), Incidental Music to “Faust,” “Be Coc D'Or” (Rimsky Korsakow), “Serenade” (Deugo). Selection, “Oavalleria Rusticana,” “Because My Baby Don’t Mear. Maybe Now” (fox trot), “Three Eastern Sketches” (Hewgil;), “Antony anc Cleopatra” (Gruenualdß Ballet Selection from “Sylvia” (Delibes).
