REDUCTION NOT DESIRED WHANGAREI PROTEST (From Our Own Correspondent) WHANGAREI, To-day. Tin* Whangarei County Council, at a monthly meeting to-day. strongly supported the No. 1 Highway Council in opposing a recent statement made by the Hon. 11. Atmore to the effect that motor taxation should be reduced. Membi rs stated that taxes should rather bo increased, and the council decided io write to the Prime Minister and ascertain if the Hon. 11. Atmore’s suggestion was the considered opinion of Cabinet. In response to a letter from the Hospital Board, stating that Kamo Springs, at present under the board’s control, could not be developed in a manner worthy of their unique character, owing to lack of available funds, and asking that the council support the board in an endeavour to persuade the Government to take over the springs and develop them as a spa, the council decided to give full assistance. Councillors stared they were very impressed and thought that such valuable mineral waters, under Government control, could bo developed with unrivalled success.
