AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS Merchants report on sales held throughout the district during the week as follow : Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd: —During the week we held sales at Westfield, Waiuku, Wellsford and Kunieu, also a pig sale at Waiuku. There were average yardings, and a keen, inquiry continues to exist for all classes. Dairy cows and heifers at profit are in specially keen request. Best cows are selling at £l4 to £18; second grade, £lO 10s to £l3 15s; more backward, £.7 10s to £10; aged and inferior, £4 to £7; grown steers in forward condition, £lO 5s to £11; three and a-half to four-year-old steers, £8 15s to £10; two and three-year-old steers, £7 to £8 12s 6d; yearling to 18-months-old steers, £5 10s to £6 15s; good calves, £3 10s to £4 ss; smaller calves, £2 5s to £3 7s 6d; small calves, £1 5s to £2 2s; well-bred 18-months-old heifers, r.w.b., £6 to £8 10s; other heifers, £4 to £5 15s; fat steers, £ll to £l4 ss; heavy prime fat cows and heifers, £B,los to £11; lighter fat cows and heifers, £6 10s to £8 7s 6d; boner and store cows, £3 to £6 7s 6d; cows with calves, £7 to £lO 15s; heavy bulls, £7 to £11; sound young herd bulls, £5 5s to £l2 12s; other bulls, £3 10s to £5. At Waiuku, pigs were penned to the number of 553 and met with a free sale. Prices for all fat pigs continue their hardening tendency.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Ltd., Te Puke, held a most successful sale in its saleyards on Tuesday. Buyers were present from Whakatane, Tauranga, Rotorua, and Waikato. The following is the range of prices:—Best heavy fat cows, £lO 12s 6d to £ll 17s 6d; lighter fat cows, £8 15s to £9 17s 6d; fresh-con-ditioned grown bullocks, £lO 12s 6d to £l2 10s; good quality three-year, steers, £9 18s to £lO 12s 6d; inferior three-year steers, £8 2s 6d to £9 ss; two-year steers, £6 17s 6d to £7 15s; weaner calves, £3 2s Gd to £3 7s 6d; cows and calves, £7 Is to £9 11s; springing cows, £8 10s to £10; potter bulls, heavy, £8 5s to £ll ss. The New Zealand' Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd.:—Sales were held during the past week at Westfield, Pukekohe, Paeroa, Ngatea and Papakura. A clearing sale at Makarau, a sheep fair at Clevedon and a pig sale at Waiuku. At all places we report good sales, with values for all classes of cattle and pigs firm at late quotations. The sheep fair at Clevedon was a particularly good one, values for all classes of cattle and sheep being decidedly in advance of the same sale last year. Dairy cows and heifers, close to profit, best, £l2 to £l7 17s 6d; others, £9 to £ll 15s; backward springers, best, £8 10s to £lO 10s; others, £6 to £8 ss; aged cows and inferior heifers, £4 to £5 17s 6d; bulls, £3 to £lO 15s, according to age, weight and quality; store and boner cows, £4 10s to £7 ss; heifers, suitable for dairy purposes, £5 10s to £8 ss; yearling to 18-months heifers, £3 15s to £5 ss; weaner steer calves, £2 10s to £4 15s; yearling to 18-months steers, £5 to £6 10s; two to two and a-half-year steers, £6 15s to £8; three to three and a-half-year steers, £8 5s to £9 15s; four to four and a-half year steers, £lO to £lO 15s; grown steers, in forward condition, £ll to £ll 12s 6d; two-tooth ewes, £1 10s 3d to £1 16s; four and six-tooth ewes. £1 12s to £1 16s; f.f.m. ewes, £1 8s 6d to £1 13s; sound-mouthed ewes, £1 5s to £1 8s 3d; full to failing-mouth ewes, £1 Is to £1 4s 9d; store wethers, £1 6s 6d to £1 9s 6d; store lambs, best. £1 Is to £1 3s 3d; others, 13s 6d to £l.
