MINING NEWS Hauraki Mines.—The manager reports: “The rise from the 400 ft level to connect with the Tangye winze in the Union Beach section is now within about sft of the same level as the drive, and it is expected to effect communication, within the next few days. At the Seaward end on the Stockwood reef, the drilling out for stoping has been completed. The new valve piece for the 400 ft plunger is to hand and a start has been made to replace the broken one. This work has been somewhat delayed owing to the drawlift bucket rod breaking at one of the joints. This has been repaired, and good progress is being made in taking out the 20ft of water that accumulated while repairs were being made. Everything is again running smoothly, and providing no more breakages occur the repairs to the 400 ft plunger should be eompleted about the end of next week. The tanks will then be replaced with the < ages and mining operations resumed at the point where the gold was got.”
