ALLOCATION OF £22,800 LORD BEAVERBROOK’S GIFT British Offieial Wireless RUGBY, Wednesday. Some time ago Lord Beaverbrook, the well-known newspaper proprietor, met with an accident while he was motoring. As a mark of his gratitude for the attention he received in hospital, he placed at the disposal of the Prime Minister, Mr. Baldwin, a sum of £22,800. lie expressed the desire that this amount should be distributed widely for the benefit of medical education. It is now announced that the Prime Minister has selected 21 medical institutions among which the gift will be distributed. They include the Royal Soieety of Medicine, the Royal College of Physicians, the Royal College of Surgeons, the medical faculties of 15 universities and the Cancer Hospital. The Royal Society of Medicine will receive £2,800 and the remaining institutions £I,OOO each. The grant is to be applied in each case for special purposes beyond the capacity of the ordinary income of the institution. For instance, for studentships, reesarch and contributions to scientific equipment.
