“PLAYING THE GOAT”
WOMAN M.P. GETS ONE BY POST
(Australian and N.Z. Press Association J LONDON, Monday.
Miss Ellen Wilkinson, Labour M.P. for Middlesbrough East, admits that occasionally she is the recipient of pleasing little gifts from anonymous donors. To-day she had a great shock when a young goat, packed in a box and dead on its arrival, came to her through the post. “I receive all sorts of letters from cranks and aggrieved persons,” said Miss "Wilkinson, “but my secretary and I have never been so scared as we were to-day. I have not read the letter which accompanied the goat, but I fully believe the sender’s idea was that I should hand over the sacrificial animal to the Prime Minister, Mr. Baldwin. “I wish people would not do these things. It is ‘playing the goat’ with a vengeance. My nerves are prettygood, hut I cannot stand much of this sort of thing.”
