To Fight Tom Heeney
SCOTT'S BID FOR WORLD TITLE
Bout in London at End of April
(l/nited P.A.—Bp Telegraph — Coppright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 9.10 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. PRELIMINARY arrangements, which the parties regard as definite, have been fixed up between Tom Heeney and Phil Scott for a fight in London for the world's heavy-weight championship, to take place during the last week in April or the first week in May, for £2,000 a side.
tJERNARD MORTIMER, Heeney’s manager, is cabling to Heeney, who is at present in America, to bring Charles Harvey with him to take charge of his training. It has been suggested that the fight should be staged at the Wembtey Stadium on April 27. the evening of the English Cup final. The matching of Heeney and Scott is largely’ due to the persistent demands of Scott and his supporters for a bout aga*nst Heeney. whom Scott defeated twice in England before the New Zealander left for America. Probably attracted by Heeney’s phenomenal run of success in America in 1927, Scott also went across to
the States, but he was badly beaten in his first match by a boxer \yho was then regarded as a second-rater, and his showing in America was so unimpressive that he could not get a place in the elimination series for the world's championship. A match between Heeney and Scott would undoubtedly attract more attention in Kngland than in America, and this is probably why Heeney has been offered sufficiently tempting terms to light. Scott, who would have a great deal of difficulty in getting a similar match in America.
A cable received last Saturday ..said that Scott had won the European heavy-weight title from the GermanAmerican, Ted Sandwina.
